Carbon fiber composite material has become the main material in the manufacture of aircraft. However, the composite material is a poor conductor of electric current and is easily damaged in lightning strikes. The surface of the precision microporous steel mesh is covered with a composite material that dissipates lightning strikes and prevents lightning damage, providing protection for the composite material and improving the safety of critical aircraft components.

Precision microporous steel mesh is widely used in the aerospace field, for the manufacture of aircraft fuselages, wings, engine nacelle covers, flaps, wing tips, and even helicopter rotating blades and fuselage parts.

According to SAE ARP 5414, the aircraft surface can be divided into three zones: Zone 1A, Zone 1B-1C-2A-2B, and Zone 3. We recommend using different microporous steel mesh for different areas to obtain the best performance.

Zones 1B and 2B: Use a double layer of 195 g/m2 or 420 g/m2 copper mesh. Because continuous current will expand the damage area, deepen the depth of damage.

Area 1A: Use 195 g/m2 copper mesh for protection.

Zone 1C: Use 195 g/m2 or 140 g/m2 copper mesh.

Zone 2A: Use 107 g/m2 copper mesh.

Zone 3: Use 78 g/m2 copper/aluminum mesh.
